Second City has had some incredible teachers both past and present, here's a little about our History:
Second City first started as Nanette school of dance and was later taken over by Hazel Taylor, becoming the Hazel Taylor school of Dance.
After Miss Hazel retired the school was handed over to Linda Hampton who had taught at both the Nanette school and Hazel Taylor’s and it became known as the Second City school of Dance.
Second City School of Dance was ran by Linda Hampton and her daughter Jenny Hampton for many years until Linda retired leaving the school to Jenny.
In January 2023 Jenny passed Second City on to Deanne and Jorja who were still students and teachers of Second City at the time.
Since then we have been working to keep the legacy of Second City and pass on our passion for dance!
Hi, I’m Deanne,
Second City Dance has always been a part of my family and I am so proud to now be passing on my passion for dance!
I graduated in 2020 with a first class degree in sports and exercise studies and I now alongside Second City, work as a secondary school PE teacher! My favourite style of dance is Modern Jazz in which, amongst other subjects. I reached advanced level in exams with the IDTA.
I don't know what I would do without dance, from a young age it has been an outlet for me. I wasn't always as confident as I come across now, I had severe stage fright and terrible social anxiety. Dance is definitely the thing that has helped me to grow as a person and overcome so many obstacles. I hope to provide this opportunity for so many others during my journey as a teacher.
I feel so grateful to be a part of Second City and the family that we have built that is continuing to grow! I look forward to working with our current and future budding performers and cannot wait to see them all succeed!
Hi, I'm Lesley. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, which is a long long time. At age 6 (back in the 60’s) see I said it was a long time ago , I performed a tap duet on a TV show called “Junior Showtime“, after successfully auditioning against 2,000 others. Whilst at Hazel Taylor’s age 16 I qualified with the IDTA in tap, modern and stage and began teaching at the school with tap being my particular strength.
At Second City I have had the pleasure of being a part of all the teachers throughout Second City’s dance journey. I have performed in many shows, pantomimes and competitions over the years I again had the opportunity to perform on TV in a show called Revolver in 1978 as one of the hired audience dancers. One of my most proudest moments was being chosen to perform in the closing ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham appearing with the legendary Dexys midnight runners.
Currently I am teaching the Second City adult tappers ‘the happy tappers’ which I absolutely love, not only is it good fun, it’s also excellent therapy, everyone is very supportive of each other not just in dance but also in life. Dance has been consistent throughout my life and without it I would be lost. It has helped me through difficult times and it has allowed me to express myself and my feeling through my choreography. Not only is dance good for the soul, but it has given me a whole dance family, which has given me so much pleasure over the years, along with friendships that I treasure. Always remember “Dance like no one is watching “ Miss Lesley x
Hi, I’m Hannah!
I’ve been dancing for Second City School of Dance for over 18 years and have been teaching my own classes for several years now. My favorite part of teaching is creating new choreography and helping students express themselves through dance.
Outside of the studio, I work full-time in business tax compliance and am currently studying to become a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor. Although my schedule is busy, dance has always been a huge part of my life, and I’m so excited to continue sharing my passion with our amazing students.
I’m thrilled to be part of the journey at Second City School of Dance and can’t wait to see all of our talented dancers grow, learn, and achieve incredible things!💙
I have been teaching dance for a total of 44 years. I had the pleasure of having my own dance school in Italy for 15 years. I also had a professional dance career in which I danced professionally in Greece and Switzerland. I currently, alongside Lesley teach and perform as part of Second City's Adult Tappers.

Hi, I’m Jorja!
I’ve been dancing with Second City School of Dance for around 20 years. My favourite style of dance has always been ballet and have worked through the grades and reached advanced level. I started helping out in ballet lessons as a teenager and then eventually started teaching lessons of my own. Outside of dancing I’m qualified as a children’s nurse, and currently working as a neonatal nurse in a local NICU. You will see me in many lessons in between my shifts and I look forward to seeing your talent and watching you grow in confidence
